自分自身が己のヒーローであれ

One day when I was a young man I was waiting at a bus stop in Seattle to catch a bus.

僕が若かった頃の話です。シアトルのバス停でバスを待っていました。

As I was waiting there a bike messenger got off of her bike, and I noticed a patch that was on her bag.

そこで待っている時、自転車のメッセンジャーが自転車から降りました、そして僕は彼女のバッグのパッチに気が付きました。

The patch looked like she had made it herself, and it said “be your own hero.”

そのパッチは彼女の手作りの様で、そこには「be your own hero」とありました。

I thought this was a great idea.

僕は素晴らしいアイディアだなと思いました。

We all watch movies, read books and listen to songs that show people being a hero,

僕達は皆映画を見、本を読み、音楽を聴いてそこでヒーローについて表現されているけど

but aren`t our own lives more important?

僕達自分自身の人生の方がもっと大事なんじゃないのか？と。

I decided then that I also wanted to be my own hero.

僕はその時自分も、自分自身のヒーローになりたい、と決めました。

What would your life look like if you could be your own hero?

もしあなたが自分自身のヒーローになれるとしたらあなたの人生はどんなものになるでしょうか？

I think many people would include learning another language.

僕はきっと沢山の人がそこに、他の言語を学ぶ、という事をあげるだろうと思います。

Maybe learning English is one part of being the best version of yourself.

英語を学ぶことは最高のあなたになる事の一部かもしれません。

Oh, and one other thing—it`s not too late.

そしてもう一つー遅すぎるという事はありません。

It`s quite common for people to start late learning English,

英語を遅くから学び始めるというのはよくある事です。

or to take a break for a long time because they had a bad experience in the past.

過去に嫌な経験があったから中断していたという事も。

With English, just like all worthwhile things in life, consistent effort is the key.

英語についても、生きていく上での他の価値ある事についてと同様にたゆまぬ努力が鍵となります。

And the best time to start your consistent effort is always right now.

そしてその努力を始める最高の時は、いつでも、今この時なのです。
