英語を学ぶためのアドバイス

長く英語を教えてきて、失敗を恐れてしまうため、英会話の実力が伸びない生徒さんたちを見てきました。
みな間違った英語を話すのが恥ずかしいのです。間違った文法で話すのが恥ずかしく、ためらってしまいます。
けれども言語を学ぶ時にはこれは大きな欠点になります。いつもすべてがスムーズに間違いなく運ぶことがないのと同じように、語学も間違いを重ねない限り上達しません。

間違えることは、外国語を学ぶ時に一番大事なことのひとつです。なぜなら間違えたことから数多くのことを学ぶからです。類似点として多くの生徒さんたちが私にあまり質問をしません。
もし質問をしたらその質問の内容が的外れではないかとか、おかしな質問ではないか、私やほかの生徒さんたちに思われるのを心配しているのかもしれません。

しかし、私はたくさんの質問をしてくる生徒さんたちはとても賢いと思っています。そう、私の教室では決してミスすることを気にしないでたくさんたくさん質問してください。
間違っても私は全く気にしません。あなたの望むゴールにあなたが到達できることを信じています。

外国語を学ぶのには長い時間と努力が必要です。挑戦するあなたの意欲に拍手を送りたいと思います。

Advice About Learning English

One thing I have noticed throughout my years of teaching is that often my students don`t achieve their full potential because they are afraid of failing. They don`t want to make a mistake, and are hesitant to speak because they don`t want to speak incorrectly. After all, the world that we live in places a great deal of importance on succeeding at all costs.

However, this kind of thinking has drawbacks too. Obviously, we can`t always succeed at everything we do, and learning a second language is no different. In fact, making mistakes while learning a second language is one of the best things you can do, because you always learn from these mistakes.

Similarly, a lot of my students often don`t ask many questions. I wonder if it is because they think I will think they aren`t intelligent or that I will judge them. Actually, I think that people who ask lots of questions are really clever.

So, by all means please don`t hesitate to speak, and ask lots of questions. I won`t judge you if you make a mistake. I believe in you, and I want you to achieve your English goals. Learning a second language takes years of dedication, and I applaud you for taking on such a difficult challenge.
