then chances are you will need to use or talk about money.
In today`s blog we`ll look at some money words from a few English speaking countries.

英語圏の通貨等を見てみましょう。
UK
When the euro was created the UK decided to keep its currency—the pound.
If you have £ 5.40 we would read that “five pounds forty pence.”
A slang word for pounds is “quid,” and people often simply say “p” for pence.
イギリス
ユーロという通貨ができることになった時に
イギリスは自国の通貨をそのまま継続使用することにしましたね。
pound－ポンドです。(発音はパウンドです。）
£ 5.40は“five pounds forty pence.”
となります。
poundsのスラングは“quid”
penceはシンプルに“p”と言われることも多いです。
USA
If you have $5.40 we would read that “five dollars forty cents”
(cents are also used with euro).
American money also has words for all of their coins
that are helpful to know. A 1¢ coin is called a “penny.”
A 5¢ coin is called a “nickel.” A 10¢ coin is called a “dime.”
A 25¢ coin is called a “quarter.”
There are also coins for 50¢ and $1.00, but they are very rarely used.
Americans also have a slang word for dollars—“bucks.”
You might also occasionally hear “Benjamins,” which is the slang for $100 bills.
They are called Benjamins because
on the front of the bill there is a picture of Benjamin Franklin.

アメリカの硬貨の名称を見ていきましょう。
1¢..“penny.”
5¢・・“nickel.”
10¢..“dime”
25¢..“quarter”
50¢ と $1.00硬貨もありますがめったに使われません。
dollarsにはスラングがあり—“bucks”と言います。
10dollarsは10bucksです。
(ブライアンはこのbucksを使います。私は彼と彼の友人が
これいくら～？～ドルだよ。と言うのを聞いたことがありません。
皆～ボックスだよ。と言います。）
そして時折、
“Benjamins”と人々が話すのを聞くかもしれません。
これは
$100を表す表現で、アメリカの政治家、物理学者のベンジャミンフランクリン
の肖像がお札に印刷されていることから来ています。
CANADA
Canada, much like Australia,
uses their own version of the dollar.
There are a few slang words that people use for Canadian coins.
On Canadian dollar coins there is a picture of a loon,
which is a Canadian bird similar to a duck.
People there call the one dollar coin a
“loonie” and the two dollar coin a “toonie.”
Here in Japan we use yen (remember the y!)

ドル硬貨にはloonという鳥が刻まれています。
(カナダのアヒルに似た鳥です。）

と呼びます。
日本の通貨は「円」ですが、
英語ではyenと表記されるように
enではなくyenです。yを発音するのを忘れずに！
