Prepositional verbs are verbs that have two or three words and include a preposition
(prepositions are often directional words such as in, on, up, etc.).
When combined,
these words have a special meaning that is different than the usual meaning of the words.
Prepositional verbs very commonly use the word get,
so I thought in today`s blog we could look at a few examples of prepositional verbs using get.
Prepositional verbs―２．３の単語で構成されたin,on,upなどの
前置詞が含まれた動詞のことです。
これらの単語が一緒になった時は、通常とは異なる特別な意味になります。
getは最もよく使われる動詞です。
今日はこのgetの含まれるprepositional verbsをいくつか見ていきましょう。
Get up—This is actually quite a tricky phrase in English.
There is another similar phrase—wake up—which has a similar meaning.
Get upーこれは実は難しい表現です。
Wake upという表現があり、意味が似ているからです。
I think the best way to explain the difference is that we use wake up when we first open our eyes,
and then we use get up when we actually get out of bed:
We`ve been sitting in bed for 20 minutes, let`s get up!
Wake up-目が覚めた瞬間のことを言います。
Get up-布団から(ベッド)から実際に起き上がることを指します。
例：We`ve been sitting in bed for 20 minutes, let`s get up!
もう２０分もベッドでごろごろしているよ。さあ、起きよう！
(２０分も目覚めてからごろごろできるなんていいですね。)

Get across—The meaning of get across is to have someone else understand what you are saying:
It took some effort, but I finally got across to my students that they can`t speak Japanese in class.
Get across-他人があなたの言っていることを理解し、わかるという意味です。
例：It took some effort, but I finally got across to my students that they can`t speak Japanese in class.
ちょっと大変だったけど、ついに生徒たちに、授業中は日本語禁止だと
わかってもらうことができたよ。
Get along with—We usually use get along with to talk about people
(or even pets) that we have a good relationship with:
I get along with my boss because she is a fair person.
Get along with―人（やペット）と良い関係であることの表現です。
馬が合う、気が合うというような感じです。
例：I get along with my boss because she is a fair person.
社長とうまくやっているよ。彼女は公平な人だから気が合うんだ。
Get by—Get by has two meanings.
The first meaning is to go past or around someone or something:
(If you are at a supermarket and someone is in your way) Excuse me, can I please get by?
The other meaning is when you are able to manage in a difficult situation:
Since I lost my job we have barely enough money to get by.
Get by―二つ意味があります。
１・・(人や物を)通り過ぎたり、抜かしたりすることです。
例：(If you are at a supermarket and someone is in your way) Excuse me, can I please get by?
(スーパーマーケットであなたの前に人がいて通れないとき)
「すみません、通りたいのですが・・。」
２・・難しい状況を何とかうまく処理できるという意味です。
例：Since I lost my job we have barely enough money to get by.
私が職を失ってから、ぎりぎりのお金でなんとかやってきました。
Get over—Get over also has more than one meaning.
We use get over when we are recovering from an illness:
It took me two weeks to finally get over the flu.
We also use get over when talking about overcoming a problem:
It was very difficult for me to get over my father`s death.
Get over－こちらも幾つか意味があります。
まずは、病から回復しているという意味。
例：It took me two weeks to finally get over the flu.
二週間もかかって、やっとインフルエンザが良くなったよ。
もうひとつの意味は、「困難を乗り越える（た）」という意味です。
例：It was very difficult for me to get over my father`s death.
父の死を受け止め、乗り越えることは非常に困難だった。
Get through—We use this phrase if you can successfully contact someone by phone:
I finally got through to my son after the third call.
We also use this phrase negatively when we can`t get someone to understand something:
I just can`t get through to him that he has to show up to work on time.

Get through―電話で相手にコンタクトが取れた場合に使います。
例：I finally got through to my son after the third call.
三回目でやっと息子が電話に出たよ。
ほかには、他人の行動を理解できないよ、
とネガティブな意味で使用することもあります。
例：I just can`t get through to him that he has to show up to work on time.
彼に時間通りに出勤しろとどうしてもわからせることができないよ。
